FIGMENT NYC is a free, inclusive, and participatory arts event on Governors Island. Now in its 11th year, this year’s event will run Saturday June 3rd through Sunday June 4th from 10am to 5pm. Drawing crowds of tens of thousands each year, this family-friendly festival is an explosion of creative energy and imagination, perfect for adults and kids alike. Governors Island’s sprawling green lawns and colonial mansions will become an immersive new playground where anything is possible.
Transcending white-walled galleries and don’t-touch-that museums, FIGMENT NYC invites you to actively engage with the art: you can touch it, smell it, paint it, talk to it, dance with it, play with it, and learn from it through direct participation and experimentation. Interactive art creates dynamic collaborations between the artists, the audience, and the environment. You are invited to experience innovative installations, mobile art, performance art, dance and theater, social experiments, video projections, and plenty of music, DJs, and sound art. Create something new and make friends in FIGMENT’s games, workshops, arts & crafts stations, costume tents, community building projects, lectures & seminars on participatory art and culture, and who knows what else. FIGMENT believes that art is not just something to stare at passively...it is something to engage with, be a part of creating of, and breathe your own energy into.
FIGMENT’s collaborative projects often explore historical, current, and environmental issues while showcasing New York City’s diverse community. There’s no other festival like it in NYC.

What: FIGMENT is an explosion of creative energy. It's a free, annual celebration of participatory art and culture where everything is possible. For one weekend each summer, it transforms Governors Island into a large-scale collaborative artwork - and then it's gone.

How Much: FREE! FIGMENT is a free, non-profit event, and we do not accept corporate sponsorships.
What to Bring: Whatever you need for a day of fun. For specific ideas or if you have specific questions, view our list! Note: The event is rain-or-shine. If the forecast calls for rain, be prepared to hide – or dance – under porches, arches, and umbrellas while the clouds pass.
