10/25/12- Mark Delong Opening Reception #artopening #nyc @EdVarie w #freebooze FREE ENTRY

Opening Reception Thursday October 25, 2012 6 – 9 pm

Mark Delong is a self-taught artist working in a range of media, including sculpture, drawing, painting, and sequential art. His work features a rotating cast of characters in situations both ordinary and surreal. Drawing inspiration from dreams, popular television, and the absurdities in day-to-day life, Delong's work combines humor with a raw and spontaneous aesthetic.

The title of this upcoming exhibit No Rake Gut, refers to a sequence of everyday events that as time passes the interpretation of these events moves farther and farther from the actual reality, turning into something completely different from which it originated. As a metaphor for artistic process and art making from a primitive perspective, Mark Delong brings together a new body of paintings with a fresh color palette, broad marks, and active abstraction. The ceramic works Delong is widely acknowledged for are born in new shapes with strong graphic sensibilities. Delong will also debut a short documentary video.

Past exhibitions include Abel Neue Kunst Gallery, Bee Studios, Colette, LES Gallery, Perugi Art Contemporenea, Musuem of Contemporary Canadian Art, Museum of London Ontario, and Spencer-Brownstone Gallery. Delong has books published by Nieves, Seems, and TV Books.  This will be Delong's second solo-exhibit and third show at Ed.Varie in New York.
