I first would like to thank the lovely DJ Nickiee and the ladies at Goodgirl PR for putting together an event that brought a whole bunch of fun loving people together...I spoke with DJ Nickiee and she told me that the event was just a mess, that she didnt even have time to get dressed until half way into the event..thats dedication girl! But sadly the venue, the sponsors and the rain didnt help. Here is what I experience.......
When arriving, which I arrived rather on time, if not early, found myself engulfed within a riot of party goers all looking to get in. It was nuts, people yelling they are media, women shoving because it is raining and they cant mess their hair up, men with tall models on their arm insisting they are with someone or another and demand to get in...seeesssh. But yes, after about 10 mins of being yelled at, shoved around and told to leave, I made my way into The Volstead....and that was about the excitement for the night. No really, the whole party was more exciting on the outside then on the inside. Once inside we ran straight for a drink, but to our surprise there was no open bar!! But then a sigh of relief we then were told that waitresses were handing out the sponsored Alize, but wait ....only a shot worth? wha? every 15 mins? Grab two drinks I fiqured...yeah only if you are lucky enough to grab one of the 12 drinks the waitress is carrying.
The event was a mess due to the rumor that VH1 pulled out last min. This so call "Back to the 90's" party that promised T.I, Cassie, and some older legends and who had the PR pumping strong, in the end did follow through (where was nothing 90's about it.) The venue seemed annoyed, had no idea how to control a crowd, the sponsors were flakes, and the event was missing an element. People were nodding, but no dancing. No one was drinking because drinks were too expensive, and everyone was asking about the apparent VIP "gift bag" that never was. I am waiting for an event to blow me away, I want to give a thumbs up but it is really getting hard to even think that somewhere in NYC a party is being thrown with all the elements, 100% dialed in, and is going to get me hooked. I want to love it, really...Im not bitter, I just got some high expectations.

yea i was there, wasnt to much room to dance, and there were a lot of nobodys at the party, drinks were alright but the no open bar was kinda disappointing, the idea for the party was very godd, but it seemed like a lot of things did not come thru
Hey, this is DJ Nickiee. Thanks for the positive feedback. That event was planned to perfection. However, because I sound like a white woman on the phone, when I went to the Volstead to do a walk thru and they saw that I was a "sister," all of a sudden the Volstead started giving my team a hard time including discriminatory expenses and a "dress code" a few hours before the event. We did have confirmed celebrities, but the venue would not cooperate. It will be my mission to end discrimination in New York venues. Yes, we are "hip-hop," but we are not all gun-toting drug dealers, and that is how my guests were treated, and plan to make it up to my supporters on October 31, 2008 at the Second Annual Ghost Ball.
The volstead is a dope place, stop throwing the race card around, You couldn't be smiling enough last night hunny, they're not racist, and thats a huge accusation to say and throw around. I highly doubt someone called you "sister", and if you felt the venue didnt meet your wants and needs then say that but dont cry racism. Unreal.
